I can't remember what I was actually doing in Darlington but I know I was going to a job somewhere I had never been. Somehow I had arrived by train, not car and when I came out of the station I had to take a bus to my final destination.
Now I don't know if you realise how difficult that is for someone who drives EVERYWHERE, whose father worked on the railway and who has never travelled anywhere by bus since leaving school. The very austere and grumpy looking Polish lady bus driver (yes, I did have a chat to her and ask where she was from) seemed very annoyed that I didn't know how much the bus fare was or that I was supposed to have the correct change and know which receptacle to put this change in. Have they got a Labour Council here I wondered........
Moreover, I didn't have a clue where I was going and had to ask her to put me off the bus when I got there!
I was very aware of who the "bloody foreigner" was in that equation!
It was a beautiful sunny day and my job was finished within about 4 hours so I found the bus stop and enjoyed the beautiful countryside as the bus took me back to the centre of Darlington for the train journey home.
Now Darlington is one of the cheapest areas of the country to buy property in. So if you want to move there and get more house for your money, or buy a property there to rent out, take a look at some of these.......
